Welcome to the Department of Applied Plant Biology of the University of Debrecen, whose primary task is to provide information about our training, education, and research activities.
When compiling the website of the department, we tried to create a simple, clear, information-rich, and up-to-date page.
Our department has a long history, as the department (botany, plant physiology) and its legal predecessors have been involved in Hungarian agricultural education from the very beginning and it has been its defining organization and is still expanding (biotechnology). Without the acquisition of the curriculum taught by the lecturers of our department, there is no undergraduate, master's, higher vocational training, or specialized in-service training in our faculty. The goal is to "thoroughly prepare our students in all branches of the economy, both in theory and in practice." (Péter Papi Balogh Director, National Higher Institute of Economics, October 22, 1868)
All three of our working groups continuously publish their results in various journals and conferences. In recent years, new research directions have been launched, and there has also been a clear shift towards practice-oriented bioindustry research. The department has several living professional relationships with international research groups, but also with domestic companies that are receptive to innovation, and in many cases have supported or are supporting research work in the organizational unit.
