Ghanem Amr Sayed, Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Informatics, Faculty of Health Sciences, DE, has investigated the impact of sociodemographic and lifestyle factors on oral hygiene in his research, which was awarded the Publication Prize of the Gróf Tisza István Foundation for the University of Debrecen. A survey of the Hungarian population found that gender, education and dental treatment also play a role in oral hygiene.

Our students majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Debrecen can now acquire the most up-to-date knowledge in the new Krones Hungary Géptervező Laboratórium [Krones Hungary Machine Design Laboratory], which has been established as a result of the cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering and the company Krones Hungary Kft. This unit, which is equipped with state-of-the-art computers, software and measuring instruments, was inaugurated on Tuesday in the Faculty's Ótemető utca building in the presence of managers both from the university and the company.

Novel drug candidate compounds, which are currently unique in the world and likely to be effective in the treatment of malaria, have been produced at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Debrecen. The outstanding achievement of the researchers involved has been recognized by a publication award by Gróf Tisza István Debreceni Egyetemért Alapítvány [Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen].

In Hungary, around 10,000 new cases of lung cancer are diagnosed every year and around nine thousand people die from the disease, even though there is a good chance of curing lung cancer if it is detected at an early stage. The latest research findings and state-of-the-art treatment options for lung cancer were discussed at a professional symposium held on Monday at the Pulmonology Clinic of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre in connection with World Cancer Day.

A group of experts from the University of Debrecen are also among the participants of a European research and innovation project whose objective is to investigate the impact of climate change on the emergence of toxic mycotoxins, for example, in wheat and corn (maize). This project, based on an international collaboration, was made possible by the previous successful joint research efforts of the University of Debrecen and the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih - Nemzeti Élelmiszerlánc-biztonsági Hivatal).

The production of several new herbal preparations is in the pipeline due to the cooperation between the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Debrecen and the Tashkent Institute of Pharmacy, which has been developed in recent years. There are also plans to jointly research and develop bacteriophage-based pharmaceuticals.

The Ningbo City Agricultural and Rural Development Office is launching an agricultural partnership with the University of Debrecen. A delegation from the major Chinese port and commercial centre plans to launch educational and scientific links, details of which were set out in a cooperation agreement during a visit to the university.

The University of Debrecen has improved its position in the QS sustainability ranking. UD has moved up from 372nd to the 313th place among the institutions examined by the renowned UK ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds, thus becoming the best Hungarian university in this respect.

The University of Debrecen and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research have signed a cooperation agreement. The multidisciplinary international centre for basic research in nuclear physics and related science and technology invites researchers from Debrecen to participate in projects in its seven laboratories.

The latest research results in the field of historiography were presented by experts at the 3rd International Historiography Conference, organised by the Institute of History of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (DE) between 21-23 November. The three-day international conference was also the occasion for the presentation of a monograph on István Szabó, an outstanding Debrecen historian.
